Mortar screeds

  • A mortar screed is an additional layer of mortar applied over an existing surface, either floors or walls, for the purpose of levelling or correcting irregularities.
  • In the case of floors, mortar screed is used to create an even and level surface on which other materials, such as tiles, can be laid later. In addition to correcting unevenness, mortar screed can help to improve the strength and durability of the surface.
  • To carry out the mortar screed process, a specific mortar is mixed and applied to the existing surface. After the mortar has set and hardened, the surface is level and ready to receive the final finishes.
  • This procedure is common in construction to ensure that surfaces are flat and even before installing items such as flooring, glazed decorative tiles or facings.
