THE STANDARD IN 13.888: GROUTING MATERIALS<\/b><\/h2>\n

PURPOSE OF THE STANDARD:<\/b><\/h3>\n

This European standard is applicable to all grouts used for laying ceramic tiles on walls and floors, indoors and outdoors.<\/span><\/p>\n

DEFINITIONS:<\/b><\/h3>\n

Firstly<\/b>, two different types of grouts are foreseen:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Cement-based grouting material type “CG”: <\/b>a mixture of hydraulic binders, mineral fillers and organic and inorganic additives, which only needs to be mixed with water or liquid to be added just before use.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Reactive resin grouting material type “RG”:<\/b> a mixture of synthetic resins, mineral fillers and organic and inorganic additives, the hardening of which results from a chemical reaction.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Secondly<\/b>, the characteristics that they must fulfil are defined, differentiated into:<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Fundamental characteristics<\/b>: these are the requirements that grouting materials must meet.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Additional features<\/b>: these are extra requirements applicable to cement-based grouts only, for applications requiring higher levels of performance. The concepts of reduced water absorption and high abrasion resistance, identified by the letters “W Ar<\/strong>“, are introduced.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
